On running a business or having your brand be heard on Instagram, there are things you have to consider such as likes, followers, brand marketing strategy, Instagram influencer marketing, and many more. Another thing you have to consider that is the sole responsible for the growth of your brand to gain real Instagram followers is engagement. The engagement will help you grow your Instagram. 

Instagram engagement is how the public interacts with the content you post. Calculating it’s rate measures how well your brand is connected with your audience.

Here are tips on how to measure your engagement: 

  • Impressions – The total number of times all your Instagram posts and your Stories are seen
  • Reach – The number of unique views your posts and Stories have
  • Website clicks – The number of times the website link in your Instagram account is clicked, causing a user to leave Instagram and visit your website.
  • Profile visits – The number of times a user visited your Instagram profile.
  • Followers – Calculate your follower growth rate by dividing the number of followers you’ve gained in a specific time period by the previous number of followers. Multiply that by 100 for the percentage.
  • Comments – The number of times users have written something underneath your post, including when they tag a friend. Add the number of comments with likes and saved posts to find the total interactions on a post.
  • Saved posts – The number of times users have clicked on the flag icon at the right-hand side of your post to add to their private collection of saved posts. They will probably return to your post to review later or view it repeatedly.
  • Views – The total number of times your video or Instagram Story was viewed.
  • Likes – The number of times users have clicked on the heart underneath your post. Even with likes being hidden, remember: Likes still matter.

Calculate your brand’s Instagram engagement rate

Engagement rate by reach ( ERR ) 

Pros: Reach can be more accurate than follower count since not all followers see your content and non-followers can be exposed to your posts through shares, and other means

Cons: a very low reach can lead to a very inaccurate high engagement rate

  • Most commonly used to calculate engagement with content
  • Measures the people who chose to interact with your content after seeing it
  • Single post : ERR = total of engagement posts / reach per post * 100
  • Average ERR = Total ERR / Total Posts

Engagement rate by posts ( ER)

Pros: a better way to gauge interaction based on how people have seen your post this formula replaces reach with followers. It is a more stable metric of measurement

Cons: It doesn’t account for viral reach. And as followers go up, your rate of engagement could go down a little

  • This formula measures engagements by followers on a specific post.
  • Single post : ER post = total engagement on a post / total followers * 100 
  • Average ER by post = total ER by post / total posts

Engagement Rate by impressions

Pros: useful when you’re running paid content and you need to evaluate its effectiveness

Cons: the base is bound to be lower than ERR and ER post. It’s best to use it with ER reach

  • While reach measures the people who see your content, impression tracks how often they appear on that content
  • Single post: ER Impression: total engagement on a post / total impression * 100
  • Average: Total ER impression / Total Posts

Daily Engagement rate ( Daily ER)

Pros: Good way to gauge how often your followers interact with your account on a daily basis

Cons: the formula doesn’t account for the fact that the same follower may engage 10 times in a day, versus 10 followers engaging once.

  • While engagement rate by reach measures engagement against maximum exposure, it’s still good to have a sense of how often your followers are engaging with your account on a daily basis.
  • Daily ER = Total engagements in a day / Total followers *100
  • Average Daily ER = Total engagements for X days / (X days *followers) *100

Engagement rate by Views ( ER views)

Pros: if your video’s objective is to generate engagement

Cons: View tallies often include repeat views from a single user (non-unique views). While that viewer may watch the video multiple times, they may not necessarily engage multiple times.

  • how many people choose to engage with your videos after watching them.
  • ER view = Total engagements on video post / Total video views *100
  • Average ER view = Total ER view / Total posts

Factored Engagement rate

  • Add more or less weight to certain factors in the equation.
  • For example, a marketer may wish to place a higher value on comments versus likes, weighting each comment as two versus one.
  • Comment-weighted ER = (Total comments x 2) + all other engagements / Reach per post *100

Cost per engagement

  • If you’ve chosen to sponsor content and engagement is a key objective, you’ll want to know how much that investment is paying off.
  • CPE = Total amount spent / Total engagements

Have you ever tried looking for someone on Instagram but the Instagram app says something like “No Posts Yet” and it doesn’t show the profile’s bio or the follower information? Well, it means you are blocked by that someone.

Instagram doesn’t notify you when someone blocks you. If you have a nagging suspicion about someone who you haven’t heard from in a while, here’s how you can check if they have blocked you on Instagram.

  1. Open your Instagram app.
  2. Go to the search bar.
  3. Type in the person’s username who you think has blocked you into the search bar

Once you find the person you’re looking for, click on their picture and name to enter his/her Instagram profile. You should be able to see his/her pictures. If you cannot see their pictures or any information, or if they don’t appear in the search bar there could be two reasons. Either, this person has blocked you from their Instagram or they have deleted their Instagram account entirely.

You can also confirm this by visiting the person’Instagram profile on the web. If you remember their Instagram ID, add it to the end of the “www.instagram.com/(username)” link.

Again, if Instagram tells you that the page doesn’t exist, they might have blocked you or they might have deleted their profile.

To confirm whether their account has been deleted, you need to do some detective work. Head to an Instagram account you know the person follows and look for comments or likes they’ve left; if you find any, it confirms that they haven’t closed their account, and have indeed blocked you.

You could also always use a friend’s account, or even create a new Instagram account, and look for the person you suspect blocked you. If this other account can find their profile, see their photos, and the like, you’ve been blocked.

 

What happens when someone blocks you on Instagram?

 

Blocking someone on Instagram is actually fairly easy. If this person wants to block you for whatever reason, they can do so easily. You can block someone on Instagram or be blocked on Instagram by the click of a button. Once you block someone on Instagram they won’t be able to see your profile or pictures anymore. So these are some of the changes that happen when someone blocked you on Instagram.

  • You cannot see their profile, photos, or stories
  • You cannot contact them through messages

But what if Instagram itself blocked you? Can Instagram block you? What are the reasons behind this blocking?

 

Can Instagram Block you?

Instagram has a right to block users without warning them if their profiles violate the Community Guidelines or Terms of Use. Oftentimes, Instagram “punishes” profiles with a temporary block.

 

Reasons why you can be blocked from Instagram

1. Mass following and Mass liking:

Instagram doesn’t want any spambots mass following and unfollowing, so it’s imposed follow limits. You can only follow 7500 accounts, and per hour you can only perform 60 actions (follow and unfollow).

The most apparent sign of receiving a temporary block from Instagram is through trying to grow a significant number of likes and followers at one time. It’s good that you’ll know Limits and restrictions according to official Instagram reference avoid these things to happen.

  • a maximum number of likes per hour: 60;
  • a maximum number of comments per hour: 60;
  • a maximum number of follows per hour: 60;
  • a maximum number of messages per hour: 60.

But if your account is fairly new, the limits are different:

  • a maximum number of likes per hour: 30;
  • a maximum number of comments per hour: 30;
  • a maximum number of follows/unfollows per hour: 30.

     

2. Excessively Frequent Posting:

 Not only is this kind of behavior considered spammy but posting multiple times in a row can cause you to get penalized by the Instagram algorithm, meaning your posts will be shown to fewer people!

Aside from being blocked from Instagram, it’s the best thing to know that If you want to generate a lot of engagement (and sales) on your Instagram posts, you need to post when your audience is most active! So there’s no need to post-flooding because it will become useless when no engagement.

 

3. Copyright Infringement:

Copyright infringement (colloquially referred to as piracy) is the use of works protected by copyright law without permission for a usage where such permission is required, thereby infringing certain exclusive rights granted to the copyright holder, such as the right to reproduce, distribute, display or perform the protected work, or to make derivative works.

As a general matter, copyright infringement occurs when a copyrighted work is reproduced, distributed, performed, publicly displayed, or made into a derivative work without the permission of the copyright owner.

The copyright issue is a big deal on Instagram. All images in your account have to be either yours or permitted by the author. If you want to share somebody else’s image, tag the author in the photo (provided he has an Instagram account) and give credit to the author in the description.  Moreover, if you post a video with music to which you don’t have the rights, Instagram will remove such a post for sure. The worst thing is the author can report you to Instagram for using the photo without their agreement or specifying the authorship and you can be blocked for copyright infringement.

4. Images/Videos Violating Social Network Rules :

 Whatever your goals are,  posting Photos and videos with naked bodies, sexual content, and violence are considered unsuitable. posting such inappropriate content can get you banned, so you must be very vigilant.

 

        5. User Complaints:

Can anyone report you on Instagram? Yes, People can complain especially if you don’t follow the restrictions like mass liking, mass following, insults, inappropriate content, spam, etc.

 

       6.Different IP addresses and Devices:

 An Instagram IP ban is a ban placed on a particular device so that it is restricted from accessing the services of Instagram.

If you log into your account from various devices and approve it via SMS, Instagram is less likely to ban you. Though, if you log in with different devices and IP-addresses, Instagram may think scammers hacked your account. The social network responds to it instantly and blocks the profile for your own safety.

After getting banned/ blocked from Instagram is there a chance to recover your account?

If you have been blocked temporarily, do NOTHING about it. It just makes no sense. Wait until Instagram finally hands back your privileges and you are good to go. Just make sure you do not repeat the actions that got you a temporary block ever again, or you may try the following steps.

 

How to recover Instagram’s temporary ban?

 

1. Report to Instagram:

You can report your problem to the administration by clicking the “Tell Us” or “Report” option.

 

2. Stop for two days and then try on the third day:

You should stop using your account for at least 2 days. It means no liking, commenting, following, or unfollowing. But of course, you can continue browsing on Instagram.

On the 3rd day, you can continue your normal activities and remember to avoid anything that would make you look like a bot. You should like and comment only a couple of photos every day.

 

3. Link Instagram with other social networks:

It would help you to link your Instagram account with your other social media account. You would seem more legit if you link your Instagram to other social media.

 

4. Edit your Bio:

Edit and make changes to your bio. This might help your account and saves you from any further troubles.

 

5. Clean and Reinstall:

 Use the platform like a regular user, which means avoiding spammy actions, and you’ll be fine. Instagram’s goal is to make the platform more enjoyable.

Having a hard time seeing growth on your Instagram page? Even if you’ve been posting high-quality photos and unique concepts, you can’t seem to capture the hearts of your followers?

But, how do you get more people to engage with your content? It’s easy: Ask questions. But make sure that it has something to do with your business, it should be business-related. 

When you ask questions that give an opportunity for them to open up, you start the conversation.

These types of questions can be asked in a lot of ways.

For example:

  • Remodeling or crafting related business. What project are you creating right now?
  • Life or business coach. What is your biggest goal right now?
  • Theatre. What movies are you excited to see next?
  • Restaurant. When is your next date night?

 

As you can see, the entire question has such as “now” or “next.” This helps prompt a response.

The questions are also limited in scope and easy to answer. They are customized to the type of business asking them and related to something that their ideal customer deeply cares about.

The next question that you can use is how your audience likes your service or product. 

Example.

  • How do you use our product? / How do you find our service? 

 

This is an effective question because you got to know your audience’s feedback on your product or service. You will have an engagement with your audience at the same time you can gather information and you gain some useful information in the process.

Example Questions To Ask About Your Product / Service

  1. Who is your favorite person to use/share (product or service) with? Tag them!
  2. Who first told you about (product or service)?
  3. When was the last time you had a (product or service)?
  4. What is your favorite thing about (product or service)?

 

  • What makes you inspired? 

People want to feel good and be inspired. That’s why there’s a lot of inspirational quotes or memes are posted on social media. 

It is much better if you post an inspirational quote, come up with a question on captions. Try some questions that your audience feel your concern to them. But make sure that your question has something to do with your posted quotes. 

 

  1. Who is the most important person in your life?
  2. Who is your inspiration? 
  3. What are you doing to change the world?
  4. What are you going to do to be successful?
  5. What are your dreams?

 

  • Let them tell you what they like most

Give your audience the power to choose. Ask your users about the colors they’re waiting to see in the store, most desired items, type of content they want to read. You can do this using the  Instagram polls. This will also serve as a short survey and easy to read instead of browsing all the comments.

 

 

  • Trivia or games 

 Sometimes the easiest way to engage with your customers is with a simple trivia question or action-driven quiz to complete for fun. You can post an abstract visual game or you could ask a trivia question- bonus points if it’s based on your brand. For example, ask followers to comment with their guess on what year your brand was founded. What is the first product of your company etc?

 

This builds trust and helps them know that you are a valuable resource on the topic you are an expert in. You don’t have to be serious all the time. This is a fun format to share a joke or humorous meme– just make sure that you really know your audience and don’t cross a line.

 

  • Fill in the blanks

Fill-in-the-blank is similar to other trivia and survey questions, except the answer is more restricted. Make sure your fill-in-the-blank is brand-related, or you could reference an upcoming holiday; let your followers do the rest of the work by commenting on their answers and tagging their friends to make it a group game. And as always, make sure to include a hashtag for your followers to spread the word for you.

Take advantage of Instagram’s emphasis on experience, travel, food, or other sensory pursuits: Ask questions that tap into your followers’ experiential focus points- the topics that they care about most, and therefore make them excited to share and engage with your brand. You can ask them their experience in traveling in one place, or you can also ask questions about cultural and holiday practices, sports, entertainment, or other emotionally driven topics.

 

  • Q&A

This strategy is mostly used by the influencers. Their audience will ask anything about them and of course, you should answer all of that honestly. Well, it all depends on the way the influencers take the questions, it can be serious or can have some sort of humor.

 

As for the brand, you can also ask your followers if they have any questions about your brand, product, or industry. Providing a well-executed Q&A forum gives your followers a sense of importance and the opportunity to learn more about your brand; it also allows them to indirectly divulge ways in which they’d like it to improve, and provides you with insight into what areas you should focus on providing informational content around.
